Sharon E. Goetz

PORTAGE – Sharon E. Goetz, age 69, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, May 13, 2013, at University Hospital in Madison, after respiratory complications from cancer treatment.

Sharon, a lifelong resident of Portage, was born on November 4, 1943, the daughter of Harry and Evelyn (Peterson) Gustafson.  She graduated from Portage High School in 1961 and Cardinal Stritch University in 1992.  Sharon married Bill Goetz on November 10, 1962 in Portage; together they owned and operated Complete Comfort in Portage.  Sharon was also employed at WP&L, 1st National Bank, Mox-Med, and St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Portage, where she was also a very active member.  Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, shopping, kayaking, biking, recently learning to knit, walking with her dog, Steve, and traveling “up North” with her husband, Bill.  Sharon loved spending time with her family and dear friends more than anything.  She always had a smile for you and had the most contagious laugh.

Sharon is survived by her husband of fifty years, Bill Goetz, Portage; her children, Gregory (Lisa Wray) Goetz, Portage, and Kris (Josh) Acker, Madison; her grandchildren, Keaton Marie Goetz, and Timothy Jon Goetz; her brothers, Larry (Sandy) Gustafson, Portage, and Thomas (Peg) Gustafson, Beloit; her beloved pet, Steve, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many close friends. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Marjorie Galli, and her nephew, Tommy Gustafson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Briggsville, N565 County Rd. A, Briggsville, WI 53920, with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church. The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Columbia County Humane Society.
