Joseph F. Chvojicek

LEWISTON TOWNSHIP  /  PORTAGE  --  Joseph F. Chvojicek, age 83, of the Township of Lewiston, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at his home.

Joseph was born on May 29, 1930, in Budapest, Hungary, the son of Joseph and Gizella Chvojicek.  He married Donna Townsend on February 10, 1952.  Joseph worked at Unimin Corporation in Portage for 40 years.  After his retirement, he did volunteer work for the Commission on Aging and the Columbia County Humane Society.  Joseph was a member of Briggsville United Methodist Church.  He loved sports, particularly baseball, dancing and music, and playing cards.  He loved his faithful canine companion, Rusty.

He is survived by his wife, Donna;  his children, Lawrence (Mary) Chvojicek, Portage, John Chvojicek, Madison, Linda (Steve) Krejchik, Portage, Kathie Chvojicek, Waukesha, Kenneth (Ruth) Chvojicek, Portage, Donna (Kelly) Farrey, Portage, Diane (Russell) Arnett, Burlington, WI, and David (Lori) Chvojicek, Cokato, MN;  17 grandchildren;  step-grandchildren;  12 great-grandchildren;  other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Julie Rowe, and her husband, Jeffrey Rowe.   

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2013, at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with the Reverend Julie Wilson officiating.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013, at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Columbia County Humane Society.
