Donald S. Audiss

PORTAGE  --  Donald S. Audiss, age 60, passed peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Divine Savior Healthcare Hospital in Portage.

Don was born on January 10, 1953, in Portage, the son of Gene and Ruth (Miner) Audiss.  He began working at Indian Echo’s as a prep cook.  They soon discovered his love for cooking.  As he excelled, they sent him to further his education.  After finishing his schooling, he proudly wore his apron as chef for a prominent steak house in DesMoines.  Don enjoyed working at restaurants in Iowa and Wisconsin.  Later he enjoyed working at the Cactus Club for his brother, Dean, until his retirement.  Don loved people. He was a gentle man with a “simple” point of view.  He treasured his friends and was very proud of his family.  

He is survived by his daughter, Erin (James Whaley) Audiss, Montello; his grandchildren, Tylor Shaw, Tristan Woelflein, and Ayda Bruchs; his brother and sisters, Barb (Bill) Casey, Portage, Dean Audiss, Portage, and Bonnie (Ron) Kratz, Endeavor; his nieces and nephews, Jason (Victoria) Audiss and their children, Skylar, Nash, and Grayson, Mike Audiss, and his daughters, Carlie and Katie, Julie Casey, Charleston, SC, Joe Casey, Windsor, Rachael Baker, Green Bay, Ryan Baker, Endeavor, Renee (Nick) Sainsbury, Portage, Bradley Audiss, Portage, Bobby Kratz, Endeavor, Sarah (Tim Hanson)
Jordan, Portage, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, David and Rick, his sister-in-law, Deb Audiss, and his nephew Adam Sterlavage.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with Rev. Julie Wilson officiating.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be a gathering to follow the service at the Cactus Club, 102 E. Cook St., Portage.

Special thanks to Jennifer Kempley (CNA) for her compassion, and Jess Smith (RN) for providing us with the education to help his family and friends understand and find comfort during our hard time.
