Bill J. Forney

BRIGGSVILLE  --  Bill J. Forney, age 76, died on Monday, October 7, 2013 at his home in Briggsville.

Bill was born on October 27, 1936 in Blain Township, Oklahoma, the son of Russell and Winifred (Brubaker) Forney. He served his country in the United States Air Force.  Bill married Darlene Weber on January 27, 1990.  He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Operating Engineer Local 12 in California for over 35 years.  He loved his bus driving career for the Portage School District and most recently the Wisconsin Dells School District.  He was a member of good standing with the Resounding Sounds Handbell Choir for 12 years.  He never missed a rehearsal or a performance in all of that time.  He had a great fascination for WWII and collected any DVD’s or memorabilia of that era.  He loved talking to WWII vets in the American Legion, in which he was a member.  He also loved his tractor and truck, he was a Green Bay Packer fan, and most of all he loved his Lord.  Bill was a member of Grace Bible Church and American Legion Post 47.     

He is survived by his wife, Darlene, Briggsville; his daughter, Heather (Michael) McGuinness, Brookings, OR; his step-daughter, Shannon Jones and her family; his grandchildren, Thalia and Jordan Chavez, Shaun and Shaelynn McGuinness; his brother, RL Forney; his mother-in-law, Louise Weber; his sister-in-law, Diane Northam, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert Forney and his father-in-law, Wilfred Weber.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Grace Bible Church, 2939 County Rd. CX, Portage, with Dr. Steve Corbett and Pastor Mike Gormican officiating.  Burial will be in Briggsville Protestant Cemetery with Military Honors by Portage area veterans prior to the visitation at approximately 2:30 p.m.  Visitation will be held on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
