Edward A. Maass, Jr.

HARMONY GROVE – Edward A. Maass, Jr. age 65, died on Saturday May 11, 2013 at University Hospital in Madison as the result of an accident at his home.

Ed was born August 24, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Edward A. and Georgette (Brunke) Maass, Sr.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal.  Ed married Noreen Mrowca on September 16, 1972 in Chicago.  Ed and Noreen made their home in Portage for many years, moving to Harmony Grove 11 years ago.  Ed was employed as the Director of Operations for WP&L, Alliant, and MG&E, having retired in December of 2010.  He was the past president of the Portage United Way, was active in Boy Scouts and Portage School activities, was a past member of the Portage Curling Club, and had been a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Portage, serving on the building committee.  Ed loved to fish, to read, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He and Noreen loved to travel.  He was a member of VFW Post #8483, Madison, and Dekorra Lutheran Church.    

He is survived by his wife, Noreen Maass, Lodi; his children, Matthew Maass, Lodi, and Allison (Matthew) Ujcich, Oostburg; his mother, Georgette Maass, St. Petersburg, FL; his sisters, Barbara (Ron) Otto, New Lenox, IL, and Nancy (Ron) Conrad, Tampa, FL; his Brother-in-law, Dennis (Cindy) Mrowca, Brookfield, IL; his nieces and nephews, his grand dog, Mason, other relatives and many friends.  Ed was preceded in death by his father, Edward Maass, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Dekorra Lutheran Church, N3099 Smith Rd., Poynette, WI 53955, with Rev. Ryan Rouse officiating.  Military Honors will be held after the service at the church.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Dekorra Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Association.
