Elmer W. Langbecker

 

PORTAGE  --  Elmer W. Langbecker, age 94, died on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Tivoli in Portage.

Elmer was born on March 17, 1918 in Caledonia Township, the son of William and Mathilda (Anacker) Langbecker.  He was married to Frances Evans in 1947; she preceded him in death in 2008.  Elmer served his country in the United States 3rd Armored Division in the European Theater.  He was employed at Weyenberg Shoe Manufacturing in Portage.  Elmer was a member of Portage- Cleary-Krech VFW Post #1707, the DAV, and Portage United Methodist Church.    

Elmer is survived by his children, Shirley Patchin, Portage, and Jeff (Susan) Langbecker, Baraboo;  three grandchildren, Matthew (Pamela) Patchin, Portage, Allen (Taylor Boss) Patchin, and Molly Patchin, Portage;  three great-grandchildren, Lexi and Abby Patchin, and Jasmine Martin; his sister-in-law, Marjorie Sauer, Portage.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Frances Langbecker, his daughter, Barbara Marie in infancy, his brothers, Kenneth and his wife, Lois Langbecker, Milton Langbecker, and Raymond Langbecker.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 14, 2012, at Portage United Methodist Church, with Pastor Tom Countryman officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, with Portage area veterans conducting military honors.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.
