Larry D. Swan

MADISON/PORTAGE –  Larry D. Swan, age 56, died on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at University Hospital in Madison, due to complications from a heart transplant in November of 1987.

Larry was born on September 22, 1955 in Portage, the son of Harold and Dawn Elizabeth (Twitchell) Swan.  He served his country in the United States Navy, and had worked at Dawn’s Foods in Portage.  Larry loved to read, and take scooter rides.  He enjoyed going to church.   

Larry is survived by his daughter, Dannell Swan, Portage; special daughter, Amanda (Joe) Schaefer, Sun Prairie; his grandchildren, Ethan Kingsley and Andrea Naulthart; his sister, Sherri (Jim) Blount, Portage; his brother, Terry (Margaret) Swan, Portage; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his life partner, Ellen Blackhawk in 1997.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2012, at CrossPoint Assembly of God in Portage, with Rev. Randy Mantik officiating.  Military Honors will be held at the church following the service.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be held on Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at UW Hospital, as well as everyone else who touched Larry’s life through their care and concern.
