George James William Staudenmayer

ENDEAVOR –  George James William Staudenmayer, age 65, a proud native of Portage, died on Monday, July 23, 2012 at his home in Endeavor.

George was born on April 19, 1947 in Portage, the son of Clarence and Florence (Wakerhauser) Staudenmayer.  He was a disabled veteran, and had served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.  George had a special place in his heart for disabled veterans at the VA Hospital in Madison.  For several years, he donated hand-made personalized cards to the patients.  He was an accomplished musician and excellent artist.  Being very interested in the history of Portage and the surrounding area, George had donated several pieces of his artwork to the Museum at the Portage, and for the past four years had been the design artist for the Zona Gale Friendship Village postal cancellation stamp.  He was extremely proud of his family’s long and involved development in the City of Portage.

He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne “Suzy” (Mark Belgen) Staudenmayer, Waunakee;  his niece, Stacy (Mike) VanWormer and their daughter, Sophie;  his nephew, Rick (Amy) Case of Randolph and their children, Adam, Hannah, and Olivia and great nephew, Bryden;  special friends, Bob Kleist, Gary Hutzler, Jeff Grothman, Brad Palmer, Ron Gabbei, and Loren Lippett;  other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, William J. Staudenmayer. 

Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with Martin Genrich officiating.  Military honors will be provided by Portage area veterans.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.
