James Roy “Jim” Miller

PORTAGE –  James Roy “Jim” Miller, age 61, of Portage, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Divine Savior Healthcare Hospital.

Jim was born on August 20, 1950 in Salem, Ohio, the son of Carl Raymond and Vilda Iris (Buchner) Miller.  He served his country with the U.S. Army.  Jim most recently worked at Petro.  He had owned and operated his own painting company, and previously had worked the Alaska oil fields.  Jim will be remembered for his quick wit and ability to joke and make others laugh no matter how bad the situation got.  Jim was an artist who shared his work in local shows.  His artwork hangs on walls from Alaska to Virginia and many places in between.  His sons were his pride and joy, and he was their hero.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Margo” Langrehr Miller, Portage;  two sons, Wilson J. and Jackson A. Miller, both of Portage;  his mother, Vilda Miller;  three brothers, Randy C. (Susan) Miller, Fairfield, OH, Robert E. (Patti) Miller, Leetonia, OH, and Thomas C. (Diane) Miller, Leetonia, OH;  many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Carl R. Miller, and his sister, Carla R. Miller Sarchet.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with the Rev. Dick Inglett officiating.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.
