Artis C. Hanson, better known as “Art, the Barber”, 85 years of age, passed into eternal life on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Divine Savior Healthcare Hospital in Portage, where he had been for a week after suffering a massive hemorrhagic CVA.  Art was born in Springfield Township, Jackson County, Wisconsin to Archie and Leva (Halverson) Hanson on December 24, 1926.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Taylor Lutheran church, where he was also married to Elayne June Clipper on August 18, 1948.  They were blessed to spend over 64 years together and produced two wonderful children, Jonathan Karl “Butch” Hanson and JoEllen Joy Flees.

After discharge from the Army Art attended Barber School in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and upon graduation in 1950 moved to Portage where his first job was with the R.V. Art was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church since 1952, the Portage Elks Club B.P.O.E. #675 for 58 years, and the American Legion #0047 for 50 years.  He had a great sense of humour and was known for his “Grandpa” jokes, and his beautiful gray hair, often being called “the Silver Fox”.

Michael) Flees; his grandchildren, Michael and Nicholas Hanson, Joshua Flees, Jennifer (Dr. Paul) McCaughey, and Jami (Nick) Cluts, as well as four great grandchildren, Kellen and Max McCaughey, and Lillea and Ivan Cluts.  He is further survived by a brother, Dean Hanson; and a sister, Donna (Donnie) Larson; sisters-in-law, Virginia Hanson and Nila Hanson; step-brother-in-law, Henry Kiel; and Eileen “Clipper” Casper, a special sister of Elayne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Rachel Hanson, his parents-in-law, John and Effie Clipper; his sister, Marie (Warren) Wheelock, brothers, A. LaVerne Hanson and A.
