Monica A. Farrey

 

PARDEEVILLE  /  PORTAGE –  Monica A. Farrey died peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2012 at Tivoli in Portage.

Monica was born on August 14, 1925 in Elk Grove, Wisconsin, the daughter of Marguerite (Burke) and Joseph Hoppenjan.  She graduated from Shullsburg High School in 1943.  She attended nurse’s training at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Chicago, Illinois  Monica married Raymond W. Farrey on November 23, 1946.  We will miss mom’s strong spirit, warm smile and gracious heart (along with her famous cookies and banana bread).

Monica is survived by her children, M. Monica Odani, Lomita, CA, Margery (Michael) Custer,  Pardeeville, Ellen (Alan Jankowski) Farrey-Jankowski, Delafield, Catherine J. Farrey, Donald (Nancy) Farrey, Atlanta, GA, and David (Beata) Farrey, Madison; 15 grandchildren, Robin, Gillian, Nick, Cris, Jami, Adam, Andy, Ben, Dan, Blake, Emily, Samantha, Abygail, Sam, and Kai; 12 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Kahlan, Micah, Jake, Jordan, Madison, Drew, Aidan, Natalie, Alexander, Genevieve, and Adelaide;  two sisters, Carita and Joan;  sisters-in-law, Ruth, Pat, Joyce, Elizabeth, Mary Jane, Rita, Charlene, and Meg; brothers-in-law, Don, Julian and Gus;  numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband;  her son, Joseph;  her sisters, Irene, Marian, and Ethel;  and her brothers, Joe, Paul, Jack, Jim, and Don.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, where the rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will also be held on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Grade School Tuition Fund in Portage, or the Portage Public Library, for materials for the visually impaired.

The family would like to thank Tivoli and other health care staff who cared for mom.
