Sheldon F. Dewsnap

PORTAGE –  Sheldon F. Dewsnap, age 97, died on Monday, August 27, 2012, at Heritage House in Portage. 

Sheldon was born on October 31, 1914 in Moundville, the son of Freeman and Carrie (Eager) Dewsnap.  He was married to Carol M. Clark on April 8, 1939.  She preceded him in death on January 7, 2005.  Sheldon graduated from the UW short course in agriculture, and had participated in the Civil Conservation Corp.  He planted many pine trees in the area.  Sheldon farmed in Moundville for many years, had a milk route for Portage Creamery and worked at the Westfield Creamery.  He had been a district manager for Madison Newspapers.  Sheldon was a very active member of Moundville United Methodist Church, a member of the Endeavor Lion’s Club, and was a 4-H Leader.  He was very involved with raising his kids, and he loved ice cream.  Sheldon and Carol traveled to the Holy Land and to all fifty states, and spent their winters in McAllen, Texas for many years.

He is survived by his children, Calvin (Paula) Dewsnap, Prospect, Kentucky, Douglas (Lucy) Dewsnap, Moundville, David Dewsnap, Moundville, Dennis (Susan) Dewsnap, DePere, and Linda (Larry) Krueger, Moundville;  daughter-in-law, Dawn (Roger) Lochner, Portage;  his sister-in-law, Beverly (Orville) Karow, Columbus, Wisconsin;  12 grandchildren;  17 great-grandchildren;  other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol, his son, Stewart, two sisters, Mary Turner and Geraldine Donner, and his brother, Arden Dewsnap.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 31, 2012 at Moundville United Methodist Church in Moundville, with Rev. Julie Wilson officiating.  Burial will follow in Moundville Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Heritage House and Home Health United Hospice, his granddaughter, Betsy Bretsch, and Neal and Jeanne Turner.
