Maxine M. Callison

PORTAGE –  Maxine M. Callison, 94, of Portage, formerly of Janesville, died on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at American Way nursing home in Portage.

Maxine was born on September 3, 1917 in Marengo, Illinois, the daughter of Herbert and Bessie Pope, and had lived in Janesville most of her life.  She graduated from Janesville High School.  She married Robert Callison on April 15, 1941 in Janesville.  Maxine cared for Robert during his battle with MS until he passed away in 1975.  Maxine worked for over 25 years at Parker Pen.  She made many friends during her years at Parker Pen and was lovingly called Slapsy Maxy.  She loved her Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers.  Maxine was fun loving, enjoying life to the fullest. 

She is survived by her niece and care giver, Joyce Martin, Portage, brother-in-law, Bud Humbert, Gardner, Illinois, and nieces and nephews from Janesville, Vermont, Illinois and Arizona.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Callison, parents, Bess and Herb Pope, and her sisters, Grace Robson, Fran Hamre, and Bette Humbert.

A private memorial ceremony for family members will be held at Joyce and Jim Martin’s residence at a later date.  Maxine’s ashes will be divided between her beloved husband’s grave site and the Martin property, where she loved watching the deer and wild birds.  Her favorite time was riding through the woods on the ATV.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
