Warren Marc Moyer

PORTAGE – Warren Marc Moyer, age 72, of Portage, passed away on Friday evening, December 7, 2012 at his home.

Marc was born on September 17, 1940 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Warren and Doris (Yeley) Moyer.  He graduated from Glenwood High School in Chatham, Illinois in June of 1958.  Marc served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1959 until 1963, stationed in Denver, Colorado and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  He attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and Edwardsville, Illinois.  Marc was married to Cindy Worley on July 18, 1970 in St. Louis, Missouri.  His working career was with Caterpillar Tractor, General Motors and Ford.  With his wife, Cindy, he loved to travel, visiting Europe, the Northern Baltic, and the Mediterranean.  They loved spending winters in Arizona, and Marc enjoyed fishing in Canada.  He also loved to golf and play bridge with his friends.  Marc also loved playing sheepshead with his Thursday night buddies.  He was a member of Portage Presbyterian Church, a past member of the Portage Planning Commission, a member of the Optimists, and was the chairman of the committee to build John Muir School.  Marc was a WIAA Sports Official and enjoyed coaching youth sports.  He loved sailing and spending time “up north”.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy;  his daughter Kathy (Pete) Tofson, Portage;  his son, Kurt (Jessica) Moyer, Kelso, Washington;  four grandchildren, Myah Tofson, Jenna Moyer, Ethan Moyer and Vaughn Tofson;  two sisters, Martha (Orville) Hollrah, Lake St. Louis, MO, and Marlene (Tom) Simpson, Surprise, AZ;  other relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Portage Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Hankins officiating.  Military honors will be provided by Portage area veterans.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and also from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Portage Public Library, the Portage Splash Pad Project, Portage Presbyterian Church, or an organization of your choice.
