Colleen “Connie” F. Shepard

BARABOO/PORTAGE – Colleen “Connie” F. Shepard, age 71, died on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo.

Connie was born on January 31, 1940, in Marquette County, the daughter of William F. and Evelyn (Fox) Atkinson.  She was an avid pool player and was very fond of her dogs, Budder, Cubby and Boy Dog.  Connie was a member of the Portage United Methodist Church. 

Connie is survived by her children,  Steve (Sue) Bessac, Madison, Jeanette (Tim) Lange, Portage, Kenny (Lisa) Bessac, Menomonie, Wisconsin, and Robin (Wayne) Smith, Portage;  her step-children, Deb Corning, Lake Delton, Montey (Phil) Quintalia, Texas, Mike (Loretta) Corning, Portage, Pam Burns, Pardeeville, Cindy Corning, Portage, Tammy Shepard, Portage, and Joe Degner, Colorado;  eleven grandchildren;  two great-grandchildren;  ten step-grandchildren;  nine step-great-grandchildren;  her brother, John Atkinson, Portage;  her sister-in-law, Janice Atkinson, Portage;  her favorite aunt, Eva (Jerome) Lischefski, Pardeeville;  her best friends, Kim and Bill Kelly;  many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Herbie Corning, William Shepard, Vilo Bessac, her brother, Gene Atkinson, her son, Bruce Bessac, her grandson, T. J. Mountford, and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Briggsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Julie Wilson officiating.  Inurnment will be private in Greenwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Laconte of University Hospital, Dr. Susan Kreckman of Divine Savior Healthcare, and St. Clare Hospice House.
