Ellen I. (Heberlein) Raimer

PORTAGE – Ellen I. (Heberlein) Raimer, age 87, of Portage passed away peacefully at her home in the Heritage House on Sunday, July 3, 2011.

Ellen was born on November 26, 1923, in Portage, the daughter of Addison Seymour and Nellie Augusta Stowers Heberlein.  She was a graduate of Portage high school in the class of 1941.  Ellen married Neal H. Raimer on November 23, 1941.  Ellen was a lifelong member of Portage United Methodist Church.  She was also a member of the Eastern Star, numerous bridge clubs, and church circles, as well as the Women’s Civic League, the Portage Country Club, and the Elkettes.  Ellen had been the city hostess for the Portage Welcome Wagon, and a secretary for the Portage School District.                       

She is survived by her sons, Steven N. Raimer, Naples, FL, and Douglas A. (Sally) Raimer, Portage; her daughter, Mary Ellen Raimer (Michael) Agnew, Pardeeville; her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jolie) Raimer, Janice (Tony) Kapel, JoAnn (Michael) Cahill, Gina (Dan) Metzger, Jodi (Ryan) Grendahl, J.D. (Jen Chandler) Raimer, Amber (Matt) Denure, Neal Agnew, and A.J. (Sarah) Agnew; sixteen great-grandchildren, members of the Gunderson and Newell families; special nieces and nephews; Bonnie Jean Hilberg, Joan Winterhoff, Linda E. Villanueva, Jane M. Cook, Thomas A. Heberlein, and James A. Simonson, other relatives and friends.  Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Neal, on May 24, 1983, her brothers, Stewart C Heberlein, Howard R. Heberlein, Bernard C. Heberlein, and Charles A. Heberlein, her sister, Mildred I. Heberlein Simonson, and special friends, Lynn H. Gunderson, and Lyman Newell.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at the Portage United Methodist Church with Pastor Tom Countryman officiating.  Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, at Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family. 

In lieu of flowers  a memorial fund has been established by the family.
