Wayne W. Parmalee

PORTAGE – Wayne W. Parmalee, age 70, of Portage, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo.

Wayne was born on November 9, 1940 in Portage, the son of Milton and Janet (Riemer) Parmalee.
He was married on February 14, 1982 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage to Mary Zieroth.  Wayne had worked for Zinke Dray Lines, Country Plumber, Portage Furniture, and most recently as a crossing guard for the Portage School District.  He served his country with the U.S. Navy.  Wayne enjoyed reading, especially Louis L’amour books.  He loved his cats and supported the Columbia County Humane Society.  Wayne liked camping and attending the Demo Derby at the fair.  Mary and Wayne played bingo in the last few years.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Mary;  his children, Harold (Peggy) Cook, Sheboygan, Debora (Larry) Putnam, Reedsburg, and Hiram “Buddy” (Channel) Hernstine, Portage;  eleven grandchildren, Angela, Kathy (Jeremiah), Stacey (Joe), Jamie, Duane, Amber, Tiffany (Brett), Nichole, Brittany, Shane and Donna;  twelve great-grandchildren;  his sister, Barb Taylor, Eau Claire;  many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with the Rev. Alan Boeck officiating.  Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Wayne’s name.
