James C. Otto

PORTAGE –  James C. Otto, age 64, of Portage, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 after a short battle with cancer, with his family and friends by his side.

James was born on June 14, 1946 in Portage, the son of Marlin and Sarah (Hamilton) Otto.  He enjoyed watching baseball.  James started out as a young baseball fan following the Milwaukee Braves, and he was faithful in following them to Atlanta.  Thus he became the greatest Atlanta Braves fan.  Together with his brother, he worked the family farm in Caledonia for many years.  He loved nature and took care of many strays over the years.

He is survived by his sons, Christopher (Becky) Otto, Portage, Carlyle Otto, Portage, Cory (Nikki Burdine) Otto, Portage, and Clint (Heidi Konkel) Otto, Madison;  his brother and sisters, Chuck (Christine) Otto, Portage, Marlene (Dave Dickman) Manthey, Pardeeville, Nona (Wilmer) Roum, Highland, Peggy Knight, Richmond, Indiana, and Jill (Tim) Andres, Mauston;  his former wife, Rebecca Otto-Vicicondi, Alaska;  other relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with Pastor Bob Turner officiating.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.
