Peter Anthony Joyce

BRIGGSVILLE/WAUPACA  --  Peter Anthony Joyce, age 60, of Waupaca, passed away Saturday May 7, 2011, of heart failure at his home.

Peter was born on Sept. 21, 1950 at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage to John and Marlea Joyce.  He grew up on a farm outside of Briggsville and graduated from Wisconsin Dells High School, Class of 1968.  After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps on a dare from his father and served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War.  After he was discharged in 1973, he continued his education at Madison Area Technical College in Madison and became a master plumber.

In 1973 he was united in marriage to Peggy Febrey (Joyce).  One daughter blessed their marriage.  In 1993 he was united in marriage to Carole Baltz.  Peter and Carole both worked at Zimmerman Plumbing in Portage until they started A.O.K. Plumbing in Briggsville in the mid-1990s.  They worked together as master plumbers until her death in 2007.

Peter was a talented baseball player in high school and was named the top Pro Prospect in the state in 1968.  He continued as a pitcher in the Marine Corps during his enlistment.  While enlisted, he had the opportunity to play baseball all over the United States and even got to play a game at Angel Stadium in California.  Peter was a member of the Briggsville American Legion Post 329, and could be found volunteering at many legion functions.  He loved to hunt, fish, and share stories with his legion buddies.  He will most be remembered for his generosity; his caring heart; and his special love for his family and the Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Dana (Craig) Spychalla, Sun Prairie; sisters, Suellen (Ed) Wilkinson of New Albany, In. and Loretta (Walter) Grueninger of Canton, Ga.; his brother, John (Cathy) Joyce of Shreveport, La., other dear relatives and many dear friends.  Peter was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Theresa Jucenas, and his wife, Carole.
