Shirley Jean Heath

PORTAGE –  Shirley Jean Heath, age 79, of Lewiston Township, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena.

Shirley was born on November 21, 1931 in Madison, the daughter of Clarence and Josephine (Kempfer) Goth.  She was married to William Heath on June 18, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale.  Shirley had worked at Badger Ordnance, Weyenberg Shoe Factory, and Ray O Vac.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lewiston, and had been a member of the VFW Auxiliary.  Shirley liked to dance, play cards, do crossword puzzles, and do embroidery.  After retirement, Shirley and Bill did fretwork.  She enjoyed the “lunch bunch” at the Portage Nutrition Site, and socializing with friends. 

She is survived by her husband, William;  five children, Cathy Voges, Rio; Bill (Deb) Heath, Rio; Jim (Michelle) Heath, Waunakee; Roseann Hayes, Columbia, MO; and Jenifer (John) Schweger, Montello;  her brothers and sisters, Carol Damson, Oregon, WI; Sheldon (Frieda) Goth, Madison; Merlin (Angie) Goth, Madison; Gary (Claudette) Goth, California; Vera Carpenter, Madison; Ronald (Hazel) Goth, Marshall; Delmar (Rosie) Scharnhorst, MO; and Howard (Ilene) Martin, Maine;  twelve grandchildren;  fourteen great-grandchildren;  other near relatives and many close friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers-in-law, Paul Damson and Mike Carpenter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with the Rev. William Grimm officiating.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.

The family would like to thank the staff of Columbia Health Care Center for their excellent care of our Mom.
