Ruth M. Callahan

PORTAGE –  Ruth M. Callahan, age 82, of Endeavor, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at HospiceCare, Inc. in Fitchburg.

Ruth was born on January 1, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of George and Mary Agnes (McGlynn) Hanrahan.  She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Cleveland in 1947.  Ruth was married on January 11, 1958 to Paul Callahan in Cleveland.  She was a very active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Briggsville, and was a member of the Briggsville VFW and American Legion Auxiliary.  Ruth loved to crochet, spend time with her family and friends, and was very generous with her time helping other people.

She is survived by her children, Paul (Kathy) Callahan, III, Boise, Idaho, Kevin Callahan, Hawaii, Sean Callahan, Hawaii, Brian Callahan, California, Mary Callahan, Necedah, and Meegan (Tim) MacDonald, Stevens Point;  grandchildren, Paul and William Callahan, Laura (Thomas) Rowan, Daniel Bergh, Ruthann Bergh, and Andrew O’Loughlin;  a great-granddaughter, Padme Mercedes Rowan;  two sisters, Joan Ryan, Cleveland, and Eileen McCarthy, Cleveland;  nieces, nephews, other relatives and many close friends and neighbors.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Paul on May 20, 2008, brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Briggsville, with Fr. Jim Murphy presiding.  Inurnment will be at a later date.  Visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, where the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, for a memorial fund which will be set up in Ruth’s name.
