Marvin E. Garbisch

 

PORTAGE  -- Marvin E. Garbisch, age 77, of Portage, died on Tuesday, January 5, 2009 at the William S. Middleton Veterans Memorial Hospital, in Madison.

Marvin was born on June 9, 1932, in Granton, the son of Carl and Nelda (Lautenbach) Garbisch.  He married Carol Mae Janke on April 26, 1958.  Marvin served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.  He worked for American Motors in Milwaukee for 10 years, and then worked as a welder for A.O. Smith for 24 1/2 years.  Marvin loved fishing, playing cards, and gardening.  He also enjoyed playing the organ.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Carol Mae Garbisch, Portage; his children, Cheryl (Gary) Norville, and Charlene (Gary) Dieball, both of Colgate, and Christine (Gary) Abel, Nekoosa; his grandchildren, Garrett  and Gregory Dieball, Gregg and Catie Abel, and Matt and Jason Horne; his brother, Vernon (Darlene) Garbisch, Sheboygan; brothers-in-law, Jacque Schmidt, Green Bay, and Arden Hinkelmann, Neilsville, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Leland Garbisch, his sisters, Irene Mott, Alice Hinkelmann, and Violet Schmidt.   

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 9, 2009, at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
