Rose M. Roderick

PARDEEVILLE  --  Rose M. Roderick,  born on December 29, 1942, was born again in heaven, on Saturday, January 1, 2011, when she passed away at her home in Pardeeville.

Rose was born in Rosedale Township, Columbia County, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Graack) Bortz.  After graduating high school, Rose married Ronald Knutson on June 14, 1962.  She married Jim Roderick on March 17, 1989.  Rose enjoyed sewing, gardening, crafting, watching birds, spending time with family, and was an avid Bulldogs, Packers, and Badgers fan.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Roderick, Pardeeville; her children, Russ (Lorri) Knutson, Pardeeville, Rick (Sara) Knutson, DeForest, and Renee Knutson, Jackson, WY; her step-children, Wally Roderick, Portage, Sherrie (Michael Sims) Roderick, Lutz, FL, and Connie (Duane Leibfried) Roderick, Madison; her grandchildren, Matt Ehlert, Michael Knutson, Cameron Knutson, Rachel Leibfried, and Katie Leibfried; her brothers and sisters, Kathleen Kohler, Baraboo, Kenneth (Dorothy) Bortz, Portage, Anthony (Mick) Bortz, Portage, Betty (Robert) Lester, Springbrook, Carol (Howard) Lang, Markesan, Annie (George) Schepp, Cambria, and Lilly (George) Grimsrud, Pardeeville, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.  Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Emma and Henry Bortz, her brother and sister-in-law, Fred (Helen) Bortz, her brothers, Howard Bortz, Art Bortz, and Arnold Bortz, and her brother-in-law, LeRoy Kohler.   

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, and on Wednesday, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., at the church.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with Pastor Alan Boeck officiating.  Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery in Portage.  Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Rose’s name.  Much of what’s donated will be contributed to the Pardeeville Bulldog Support Foundation.
