Robert F. Jacobson

PORTAGE  -- Robert F. Jacobson, age 88, died on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at Americanway in Portage. 

Bob was born on April 25, 1922, in Lodi, the son of Otto and Laurine (Bassler) Jacobson.  Bob married Rita Dawson on June 28, 1952.  Bob and Rita were married for 58 wonderful years.  Bob worked on the Interstate System, building bridges on I-90 from Milwaukee to Portage.  He worked as the Maintenance Director for the City of Columbus for 15 years.  He also helped to build Divine Savior Nursing Home and then worked as its Director of Maintenance for 25 years.  Bob was an avid hunter for 65 years; he also enjoyed fishing, and traveling.  He and Rita traveled through all 50 states, as well as travelling to Canada, taking two trips to Europe where they visited 14 different countries.  Bob had a green thumb and planted many gardens over the years, he was also an animal lover, he especially loved Rita’s Guinea Pigs.           

Bob is survived by his wife, Rita Jacobson, Portage; his son’s Anthony Jacobson and Timothy Jacobson, both of Portage; a grandson, Luke (fiance’ Katie) Jacobson, Madison; his sister Mary Jo Radtke, Columbus, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, William and Roselea Dawson, and his brother Alfred Jacobson. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage with Fr. Jim Murphy officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Rio.  Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

The family would like to thank the staff of Home Health United Hospice, and Americanway in Portage, and extends a special thank you to all the many wonderful friends who have been there to help and support Bob and Rita’s family throughout the years.
