Donald W. Hermann

PORTAGE  --  Donald W. Hermann, age 80, of Portage, died on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at his home.

He was born on May 21, 1929 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Dr. Weber C. and Mildred (Martin) Hermann.  Don served his country with the U.S. Navy, discharged on September 10, 1954.  He was married on June 16, 1956 in Mauston, Wisconsin to Carol R. Buglass.  Don was the Mayor of Oak Creek, Wisconsin from 1974 until 1985.  He was always very supportive of his wife’s career in the ministry.  Don always had a wonderful sense of humor, and was an avid rock hound.  He served as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbus and F & AM Lodge, West Allis.

He is survived by his wife, Rev. Dr. Carol Hermann;  five children, Deborah Oates (James), Arlington Heights, Illinois, Daniel Hermann (Vicki), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, David Hermann, Milwaukee, Kathleen Hermann, Montello, and Rebecca Dreyer (Fred), Portage;  nine grandchildren;  his brother, Thomas Hermann, West Allis;  his sister, Lucille Stahl, Milwaukee;  other near relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Fred Hermann, and a grandson. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Portage Presbyterian Church, 120 W. Pleasant St., Portage, Wisconsin, with the Rev. David Hankins officiating.  Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home, 430 W. Wisconsin St., Portage, Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Church Street Station, P. O. Box 780, New York, NY  10008-0780, or the First Presbyterian Church, 321 W. Mill, Columbus, WI   53925.
