Eugene “Gene” Melvin Hathaway

 

Poynette—Eugene “Gene” Melvin Hathaway, age 79, of Poynette died on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Mission Nursing Home in Plymouth, Minnesota.

Eugene Hathaway was born in Madison, Wisconsin on March 1, 1931 the son of Elizabeth (Phelps) Hathaway Bruder and Lloyd Hathaway.  He was best known for his skills as a chef for Cleveland’s Lunch, UW Pres Harrington, the Owl’s Nest and Mr. G’s as well as other restaurants.  He was a former volunteer firefighter, as well as a member of the Arlington Lions Club and Poynette Chamber of Commerce.  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Leeds.

Survivors include his children, Diane (Bill) Beyler, Oregon, Dale (Pat) Hathaway, Poynette, Dixie (Greg) Smith, St. Louis, Missouri, and Debra (Tom) Nachreiner, Poynette.  Grandchildren, Christine (Mike) Buentello, Charlie Beyler, Jeremy (Casey) Hathaway, Shaun (Wendy) Hathaway, Drew Hathaway, Adam (Lucy) Smith, Amanda (Ryan) Adamson, James Nachreiner, and Jason Nachreiner;  six great-grandchildren;  a brother, Robert (Mary) Hathaway;  other relatives and friends. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Madison, WI Office, South Towne Office Park, Building 4, 6400 Gisholt Drive, Suite 213, Monona, WI  53713.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Mission Nursing Home for their care of Gene.

Private family funeral services will be held at Hillside Cemetery in Poynette.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette is assisting the family.
