Harold “Red” W. Crawford, Sr.

OXFORD/POYNETTE – Harold “Red” W. Crawford, Sr., age 74 of Oxford, formerly of Poynette died on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Tomah.

Harold was born on March 3, 1936 in Elkins, West Virginia, the son of Stonewall Jackson and Anna (Kessling) Crawford. On December 13, 1958 he was married to Shirley R. Hanson. Red served his country during WWII in the Air Force.  He tended bar for many years, working at the Porterhouse and the Owl’s Nest,  27 years at Kipp Corperation and was the caretaker of Hillside Cemetery for 15 years. Red was a member of the VFW, enjoyed playing cards, horse shoes and playing pool.   

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, Oxford;  his children, Jim (Rita) Crawford, McFarland, Dawn (Tom) Tewes, Poynette, Harold Jr. Crawford, Tomah, Denise (friend Sandy) Crawford, DeForest, Brian (Theresa) Crawford, Montello; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jack and his son Michael.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette with the Rev. William Grimm officiating.  Inurnment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Poynette with military graveside services provided by Poynette area veterans.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
