Anne M. Bryan

PORTAGE  --  Anne M. Bryan, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Divine Savior Extended Care, in Portage.

Anne was born on May 19, 1926, in Hawley, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Fred and Mary Serley.  Early in her life, her family moved to Syracuse, New York where she graduated from high school and worked during her early years.  Anne was united in marriage with Howard Bryan on December 1, 1965.  He preceded her in death in 1974.  Anne came to Wisconsin to work for the US Air Force at Truax Field and to be near her family in northern Wisconsin.  One of the highlights of her life was working for the Columbia County Sheriff Department from January 2, 1975 to June 30, 1994.  She fondly referred to the officers as her boys and continued those feelings through her retirement.  Anne loved bowling and she was a loyal and avid Packer fan, but her favorite sport was Brewer baseball.  Anne loved being at home on Swan Lake with her dogs and feeding the wild birds.   

Anne is survived by her step-sons, James (Patricia) Bryan, Bayfield, Robert (Patti) Bryan, Pardeeville; her grandchildren, Carri Bryan, Pardeeville, Sara (Brad) Fillbach, Onalaska, Rebecca (Carl) Schenzel, Janesville, John (Amber) Bryan, Pardeeville, and Carl (fiancée Katie) Bryan, Couer d’Alene, Idaho; her great-grandchildren, Carlie Fisher, Sidney Fillbach, Lucas Fillbach, Tanner Schenzel, Payton Bryan and Alexis Bryan; her brother, Fred (Peg) Serley, Andover, MA, and many nieces and nephews.  Anne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard, two brothers, Alvin and Edward.       

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Portage Presbyterian Church, with Rev. David Hankins officiating.  Burial will be private.  Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services, at the church. The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.

Donations in Anne’s name may be made to the Portage Presbyterian Church or the Columbia County Humane Society. 

A special thank you to the staff at Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage for the loving care that was given to Anne.
