Francis Leon "Lee" Smith

PACIFIC TOWNSHIP  -- Francis Leon “Lee” Smith, age 83, died on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at his home in Pacific Township.

Lee was born on March 6, 1927 in Gary, Indiana, the son of Leon Francis and Lilly Irene (Dewberry) Smith.  He graduated from Lincoln High School in Milwaukee in January of 1945.  Lee served his country in the United States Army, briefly, during World War II.  He married Marilyn J. Roberts on May 8, 1954.  Lee worked in the sanitation department for the City of Milwaukee, and then the State of Wisconsin until his retirement in June of 1989.  He belonged to American Legion Post #215 in Pardeeville.  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Leeds.    

Lee is survived by his wife, Marilyn, Pacific Township; his children, Jeff Smith, Panama City Beach, FL, Glenn (Dianne) Smith, and Paula Smith, all of Pacific Township; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Smith, Fond du Lac; a son-in-law, Mark Hopkins, Pacific Township; three grandsons, two granddaughters, four great-grandsons, and three great-granddaughters; his brothers, Wally Edgerley, California, and Robert E. (Caroline) Smith, Florida; and his sister, Loretta (Robert) Mildebrandt, South Milwaukee, other relatives and many friends. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Carol Arndt, his son, Lee F. Smith, his daughter, Kelly Irene Hopkins, and his sister, Idabelle Clark.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Leeds, with Reverend Harold Sturm officiating.  Burial will follow, with Military Graveside services, at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Leeds.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. 

A Memorial fund has been established by the family.
