Ross W. Johnson

RIO  /  PORTAGE  --  Ross W. Johnson, age 88, of Rio, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at University Hospital in Madison.

Ross was born on August 4, 1921, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Arnold E. W. and Frances (Fuog) Johnson.  He attended the University of Illinois before going into the Army.  He entered on November 20, 1942, and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, until he was discharged on December 23, 1945.  Ross was married on September 12, 1942, to Ruth Pedersen.  He was a data processor and systems analyst for International Harvester for 32 years, when he retired and moved to Wisconsin to pursue other business ventures with his son.  Ross was a founding member of Grace Bible Church, where he was an Elder from November of 1976 until the present, and Treasurer for 26 years.  He enjoyed his family, rural living, reading, fishing, carpentry and working with his hands.  Ross was very creative and was an inventor.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth;  four children, Pam Stowell, Pardeeville, Peggy Atkinson, Winfield, Illinois, Claudia (Ralph) Ciolkosz, Portage, and Brad (Susan) Johnson, East Wenatchee, Washington;  his brother, Arnold Johnson, Omaha, Nebraska;  twelve grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Hamm, Pardeeville, Trina (Mark) Steinke, Collegeville, Pennsylvania, Kelly Malamisuro, Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Scott (Randi) Miles, Belgium, Wisconsin, Matthew Atkinson, Rogers Park, Illinois, Jacob (Leslie) Ciolkosz, Portage, Jenny (Kyle) Lubinski, New London, Wisconsin, Beth (Keith) Stewart, Bothell, Washington, Robyn Atkinson, Round Lake Beach, Illinois, Joshua (Kim) Ciolkosz, Indonesia, Todd (Amanda) Stowell, Madison, and Jesse Ciolkosz, Portage;  16 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Jessa, and Taylor Hamm, Kyle, Drew, and Kara Steinke, Caleb and Keegan Miles, Glavin, Hudson, and Taelyn Lubinski, Harper Stowell, Micah and Luke Malamisuro, Callie Ciolkosz, and Paige Stewart;  step-grandchildren, Dave (Carol) Stowell, Portage;  step-great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Katie Stowell;  other near relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Grace Bible Church in Portage, with Pastor Steven Corbett officiating.  Inurnment will be private.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Grace Bible Church in Portage.

Memorials may be given to the Grace Bible Church Missions Fund.
