Shirley A. Carter

POYNETTE  -- Shirley A. Carter, age 78, of Poynette, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born on August 4, 1931 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Lavon (Vivian) Slapak.  She had worked at Traex in Dane, and previously at Badger Ordnance.  Shirley was a member of Harmony Grove Fellowship Baptist Church.

She is survived by four sons, Carl John (Colleen) Fecht, Byers, CO, Michael Paul (Catherine) Fecht, Portage, Aaron James Fecht, Denver, CO, and John Paul Fecht, Poynette;  her grandchildren, Carl, Jr., Todd Walter, Michael, Jr., Jessica Ann, and Angel Nathanael;  step-grandchildren, Kyle David, Karen, Phillip, and Karl;  19 great-grandchildren;  7 step great-grandchildren;  8 great-great-grandchildren;  four brothers;  five sisters;  other near relatives and many close friends.   She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, John P. Fecht, her second husband, Obrey Carter, and infant daughter, Carol Ann Fecht, one brother, and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Harmony Grove Baptist Church, with Pastor Eric Hafeli and Pastor John Roth co-officiating.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona on Friday at 3:00 p.m.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, and on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Harmony Grove Fellowship Baptist Church.
