Arthur William Briede

POYNETTE  --  Arthur William Briede, age 81, of Poynette, passed away in the arms of his loving wife, Joan, on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at University Hospital in Madison.

Art was born on July 11, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Julius Karl and Marie Anna (Grunau) Briede.  He graduated from Portage High School.  Art was married on June 6, 1953 to Joan Schutz at Poynette Methodist Church.  He served his country with the United States Army, during the Korean Conflict, and with the Wisconsin Air National Guard for thirty years.  Art worked as an accounting budget analyst for the Wisconsin Air National Guard.  He loved his family and his country, and enjoyed nature, the sound of birds, music and traveling. 

He is survived by his wife, Joan;  three daughters, Mary (Kurt) Pustina, Dodgeville, Julie (Didier) Ibar, New Berlin, and Linda Steingraeber, Wausau;  six grandchildren, Nicholas (Fiancée, Lindsay Forbes) Pustina, Anchorage, Alaska, Matthew (Olga) Pustina, Anchorage, Alaska, Jacob (Gretchen) Steingraeber, Sussex, Anna (Dennis) Cobb, Poynette, Jennifer Steingraeber, Superior, and Andrea Steingraeber, Pardeeville;  three great-grandchildren, Sienna and Chase Steingraeber and Jaxxen Cobb;  his sister, Frieda Daley, Santa Barbara, California;  five nieces, Mary Ann (Gerard) Brewer, California, Loretta (Jim) Dietz, Sun Prairie, Irene (John) Vorhaus, California, Noreen Glisson, California, and Debbie (Blake) Montag, California;  dear family friend for 27 years, Lorraine Kuhl, Portage;  other near relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his father- and mother-in-law, Frank and Mary Schutz, and two brothers-in-law, James F. Daley and Harry F. Kannry.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, with the Rev. Sharon Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Dekorra Cemetery, with military graveside services provided by Poynette area veterans.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m.
