Alburn T. Wooster (Al)

PORTAGE  -- Alburn T. Wooster (Al), age 68, passed away on Tuesday, August  25, 2009, in the arms of Jane, at Divine Savior Extended Care in Portage following a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.

Al was born on December 5, 1940 in Madison, the son of Alburn and Lorraine (Pike) Wooster.  Al graduated from Portage High School in 1959.  He was a huge sports fan and played baseball, basketball, and football while in school.  He was a team member of the 1958 football conference champs.  He reminisced about this often.  In later years he enjoyed golfing, bowling, and horseshoes which he did with his son Brian.  Al worked for the U.S. Post Office for 31 years.  After he retired in 1997 he took care of his father.  Al was a fun-loving, generous, caring man who touched many lives in more ways than he knew.  He was a great inspiration to many people.  In later years he faced many challenges with his M.S. and he never really complained.  His motto was “you play the hand you’re dealt.”  He was always good for a joke and a laugh.  He was loved by many and will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Alburn is survived by his soulmate and best friend, Jane Martinson,  his daughter, Shelly Wooster (Mike Havelka), Montello, his son, Rick (Kelly) Lentz, Pardeeville;  his grandchildren,  John (Erin) Scherbert, Blaine, MN, Jamie Scherbert (Jason Zacharias) Oxford,  Christopher Wooster, Portage, Alex Wooster, Portage, and Alexis and Riley Lentz, of Pardeeville, other near relatives and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Brian, July 2007.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Portage with Fr. Jim Murphy and Rev. Tom Countryman officiating.  Inurnment will be private in Silver Lake Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2009 at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Saturday, August 29, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

The family would like to say a special thank-you to everyone at Divine Savior Extended Care and to Fr. Joe Cox.  They were like an extended family to Al.  They would also like to thank Dr. Brenda Blohm, and the staff at Home Health United Hospice.
