Robert H. Weiss

PORTAGE  --  Robert H. Weiss, age 77, of Portage, died on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with the Rev. Alan Boeck officiating.  Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Sunday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m.

Robert was born on December 14, 1931 in Ferndale, Michigan.  He was married to Carol Maass Loomans on October 7, 1978.  Bob worked for almost 40 years at Armco Steel in Portage.  Following his retirement, he worked for the Columbia County Commission on Aging, driving the medical van, until the present time.  He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carol;  his children, Dianne (James) Lawton, Portage, Donald (Lori) Weiss, Briggsville, Dennis (Lois) Weiss, Briggsville, Janice (Doug) Dittberner, Colorado, Joyce Weiss, Dubuque, Iowa, Judy (Steve) Jacobs, Portage, Scott (Melissa) Weiss, Texas; three, step-children, Tim (Linda) Loomans, Portage, Robyn (Brian) Verge, Washington, and Sara (Kelvin) Southards, Colorado;  his grandchildren, Michael (Tonya) Lawton, Jennifer (Ethan) Weber, Pamela Lawton, Andy Weiss, Julia Weiss, James Weiss, Robert Weiss, Michelle Weiss, Sandra Weiss, Matthew (Lisa) Dittberner, Emily (Jason) Palmer, Lindsey Dittberner, Sydney Jacobs, Logan Jacobs, Kyle Weiss, Evan Weiss; step-grandchildren, Rebecca Loomans, Heather Loomans, John Loomans, Jacob (Rachel) Hamm, and Emily Hamm;  his great-grandchildren, Lexi Lawton, Bridget Lawton, Lawton Weber, Bronson Weber, Rhiland Weiss, Westly Dittberner, Mackenzie Palmer, Jaselyn Palmer, Ethan Palmer, Lucas Palmer, and step-great-grandchild, Eva Loomans;  other relatives and many close friends.  He was preceded in death by his mother and step father, Ruth and Joe Gaudietz, his father figure, A.C. “Onie” Burmeister, and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Hamm and Joshua Hamm.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice.
