Opal R. Siewert

PORTAGE  -- Opal R. Siewert, age 88, of Portage, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2009 at Heritage House in Portage, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with the Rev. David Hankins officiating.  Private family burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage.

Opal was born on June 17, 1920 in Madison, the daughter of Walter and Florence (Kelly) Lipke.  She was married on September 12, 1941 to Franklin “Coach” Siewert.  Opal was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Portage.  Opal will be remembered as a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother.  She was defined by her modest demeanor and sense of humor.  She had great concern for the well being of others and valued the friendship of many. 

She is survived by three daughters, Sherry Keegan, Janesville, Suzanne (Dick) Krenz, Janesville and Sally (Tom) Drury, Portage;  four grandchildren, Danielle McGrath, Janesville, Marnie (Mark) Rutledge, Indiana, Patrick (fiancé, Natasha Oehlhof) Drury, Lodi and Nathan Drury (Ashley Nelson), Menomonie, WI;  four great-grandchildren, Nick Holder, Tempe, AZ, Taylor Johnson, Indiana, Greydon Pelky, Janesville, and Jaxon Rutledge, Indiana;  sisters-in-law, Joyce Siewert, Wausau, Agnes Siewert, Wausau, Ann Siewert, Wausau, and  Shirley Lipke, Madison;  other relatives and many close friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents;  her husband, Frank on July 3, 2000;  two brothers, Glen Lipke and Charles Lipke;  her sister, Virginia Cerqua and her husband, Lew;  her brothers-in-law, Arthur, Jr., John and James Siewert; her sister-in-law, Ruth Peterson;  and her son-in-law, Terry Keegan.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Colleen Nall and the staff at Heritage House, in addition, Hospice.
