LaVerne D. Paske

PORTAGE  -- LaVerne D. Paske, age 79, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Columbia County Healthcare Center in Wyocena. 

Vern was born on April 19, 1930, in the Township of Caledonia, the son of Herman and Minnie Rabe Paske.  He married Loretta Tangney in January of 1955.  She preceded him in death on November 6, 2001.  Vern served his country in the United States Army.  He was employed by the city of Portage, the Badger Munitions Plant, Unimin Corp., and after his retirement, he enjoyed working at Silver Lake Cemetery.  Vern was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He loved to fish, deer hunt, and spend time with his family and friends.  His favorite spring trip would be to go visit the relatives in Nebraska. 

Vern is survived by his daughters, Karen (Jim) Grothman, Portage, Sharon (Dick) Wagner, Madison; his grandchildren, Mariah Grothman, Chandler, AZ, Elizabeth Wagner (fiancé Jason), Madison, and Chad Wagner, Madison; his sister, Angela Hosig, Portage, his sisters-in-law, Doris Paske, and Joyce Paske, both of Portage, and Anastasia Schmidt, Watertown, his brother-in-law, Thomas (Berniece) Tangney, Wisconsin Dells, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Vern was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Loretta, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Vilian (Bernice) Paske, Arless (Ruth) Paske, Glenn (Ruth) Paske, Lester Paske, Herman Paske, and Willard (Merna) Paske; and his brothers-in-law, Chuck Hosig, and Joe Tangney, Sr.

 
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with the Fr. John Hedrick officiating.  Military Honors will be provided by Portage area veterans at St. Mary Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 noon to until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Willow Court, at the Columbia Health Care Center.
