Robert E. Palmer

POYNETTE  --  Robert E. Palmer, age 59, of the Township of Dekorra, died on Monday, November 24, 2008 at University Hospital in Madison, due to complications from cancer treatments.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, November 28, 2008 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Poynette, with Fr. Raymond Dischler presiding.  Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Friday at the church.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette is assisting the family.

Bob was born on May 12, 1949 in Portage, the son of John and Olive (Bloom) Palmer.  He was married in Racine on October 13, 1973 to Christine Emmons.  Bob had been a business agent for IBEW Local #159, having worked most recently as a journeyman electrician for Staff Electric.  He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Poynette; a past president and member of the Poynette Curling Club;  a member of the Poynette High School Football Chain Gang for 34 years;  and a member of Ducks Unlimited.  He had been a member of the Air National Guard.  Bob was an avid golfer and outdoorsman.

He is survived by his wife, Chris;  two children, Megan (Dan) Wagner, Madison, and Emily Palmer, Poynette;  his brothers, John (Stephanie) Palmer, Belleville, Jim Palmer, Poynette, Rick (Lynn) Palmer, Sun Prairie, Dave (Betti) Palmer, Poynette, Roger Palmer, Poynette, Thom (Cindy) Palmer, Columbia, South Carolina, and Bill (Kelly) Palmer, Poynette;  his sister, Louise (Clark) Luessman, McFarland;  his former sister-in-law, Karen Palmer;  many nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the Suchoman Scholarship Fund c/o IBEW Union, 1602 S. Park, Madison, WI  53715.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the TLC and IMC Units at University Hospitals, for the extraordinary and compassionate care given to Bob.
