Leonard A. Nowak

PORTAGE – Leonard A. Nowak, age 89, died on Sunday, October 18, 2009 in his home at AmericanWay Assisted Living facility.

Leonard had recently moved to Portage, Wisconsin from Medina, Ohio where he had lived with his wife Amelia “Molly” Nowak for 35 years.  Leonard was born June 6, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Wojtik and Mary (Kanarek) Nowak.  He was married to Amelia Eberling on January 13, 1947 in Cleveland.  Leonard worked for Cleveland Twist Drill for 42 years.  He served his country during WW II with the U.S. Army.  During his time in the Army, Leonard was part of the European campaign, reaching the rank of Sergeant.  Leonard had been very active at the Senior Center in Medina.  He was a regular with the morning group that met for coffee, donuts, pool and mostly friendship.

He his survived by his wife of 62 years, Amelia “Molly”, who continues to reside at AmericanWay, and his son, David (Janis) Nowak, Illinois.  He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
