William F. Kassner

WYOCENA  -- William F. Kassner, age 91, formerly of the township of Lewiston, died on Friday, December 18, 2009, at Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena. 

Bill was born on April 20, 1918, in the Township of Lewiston, the son of Frank and Martha (Paske) Kassner.  He married Annamae Ebert in Portage on October 12, 1947.  Bill served his country in the United States Army during WWII in the Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland Campaigns.  He received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal.   Bill had worked as a construction worker and retired from Badger Ordinance.  He was a member of the Briggsville American Legion, and the Lake Mason Lions in Briggsville.  Bill was an avid deer and duck hunter.

Bill is survived by his wife, Annamae Kassner, Wisconsin Dells, his son, Douglas Kassner, Township of Lewiston, his step-daughter, Mary (Curt) Summers, Township of Lewiston, daughter-in-law, Pam Kassner, Township of Lewiston, ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, a brother, Carlton (Bonnie) Kassner, Wisconsin Dells, his sisters, Alberta Schultz, Briggsville, Adeline Bulgrin, Fort Atkinson, a special niece, Donna Stewart, Portage, other relatives and friends.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his son Dennis Kassner, his daughter Diane Kassner, a brother, Herbert Kassner, and a sister, Mathilda Johnson.

Graveside memorial services will be held in the spring in Oak Grove Cemetery in Portage.  The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family. 

The family would like to thank the Columbia Health Care Center for their compassion and care the last 8 years.
