FARMINGTON, MN  /  PORTAGE  --  David R. Hoffman, age 57, of Farmington, Minnesota, formerly of Portage, died on Thursday, November 20, 2008 in his home.

Private family memorial services will be held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with  Rev. Alan Boeck officiating.  Inurnment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, with military graveside services provided by Portage area veterans.

David was born on April 19, 1951 in Ripon, Wisconsin, the son of Robert and Doris (Ahrens) Hoffman.  He served his country during the Vietnam War from 1969 until 1972 with the United States Army.  David had been a manager at RapidSERV Delivery Service.  He worked for many years with the Perkins Restaurant chain and previously owned Chester’s Restaurant in Minneapolis.  David was a member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his mother, Doris Hoffman, Portage;  his brother, Jeff (Kelley) Hoffman;  his sisters, Heidi (Eugene) Thompson, Ruth (Ken) Chvojicek, and Sue (Bill) Amend;  his nieces and nephews, Cory (Spring) Thompson, Kevin (Sarah) Thompson, Brian (Jessica) Thompson, Jennifer Chvojicek, Benjamin (Melissa) Chvojicek, Heather Hoffman, Alex Amend, and Michael Amend;  many other great-nieces and nephews and close friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hoffman, and by his beloved companion, Floyd, his black lab.

Following in his father’s footsteps, David was an avid lover of the outdoors.  His many interests included fishing, golfing, trap shooting, biking, cooking, and water-skiing.
