Harold A. Chappell

 

PORTAGE  -- Harold A. Chappell, age 84, of Portage, died on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Divine Savior Healthcare Hospital in Portage.

Harold was born on April 13, 1925, in Portage, the son of Lester and Minnie (Butzlaff) Chappell.  He graduated from Portage High School in 1943, and served his country in the U.S. Navy, in the South Pacific, during WWII.  Harold married Adina White on May 30, 1947,  she preceded him in death in 2001.  He worked as the maintenance engineer for the Portage Public School System for 35 years.  Harold was a member of Portage United Methodist Church.

Harold is survived by his sons, John (Joan) Chappell, Aurora, IL, and Bill (Michelle) Chappell, Westfield; grandchildren, T.J. and Randi Chappell (fiance’ Robert Mele), Madalyn Chappell, Thomas and Spencer Cuff, and Samantha Wolff.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Adina, his brother, Lester Chappell, his brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Wanda Chappell, and his sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Roy Yanko.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at Portage United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Countryman officiating.  Inurnment will be held at a later date at Oak Grove Cemetery.     Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the services at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Portage United Methodist Church Music Fund.
