David Brockley

PORTAGE  -- David Paul Brockley was a very precious gift given by God to Bill and Irma in the early morning hours of January 29, 1970.  He was brought to the living water of Holy Baptism on February 15, 1970 and became one of his Heavenly Father’s little lambs.  David attended St. John’s Lutheran School and confirmed his faith on April 15, 1984 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Thursday, August 13, 2009, at age 39, David lost his battle with alcoholism and took his own life at the place dearest to his heart, where he grew up, water skiing and hunting on the shore of Swan Lake.

David graduated from Portage High in 1988 and Florida Southern College in 1992.  He was a very competitive athlete in waterskiing, baseball and basketball.  He loved hunting both by bow and gun;  a love he learned from his grandfather.  David was married to Robyn Van Etten on June 22, 1992.  They were blessed with the joys of his life, his two sons, Paul John and Kyle Patrick.  He greatly mourned the death of his daughter, Alyssa at birth in 1998.

David is survived by his sons, Paul and Kyle;  their mother, Robyn;  his parents;  his brother, Marc (Sara);  his nephews, Isaac and Emmett;  his god-parents, Rev. Bryan and Dawn O’Connor;  his uncles, Bill (Dinah) Hahn, Peter (Beth) Hahn, and Jim Brockley;  his aunts, Mary (Gene) Felix and Diane Hahn;  numerous cousins, other relatives and dear friends.

David was preceded in death by his daughter, his most beloved grandfather, James Paul Brockley, his grandparents, Mary Brockley, Emil and Verna Hahn, and his uncle Fred Hahn.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2009 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with Rev. Alan Boeck and Rev. Jeffrey Teeple officiating.  Inurnment will be private in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the church.

May you now rest in peace in the arms of your Savior.  Good night son, we’ll see you in the morning.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for Paul and Kyle’s future education.
