Wallace “Wally” F. Bolgrien, Jr.

PORTAGE  -- Wallace “Wally” F. Bolgrien, Jr., age 73, of Portage, died on Friday, September 18, 2009 at Divine Savior Healthcare Extended Care, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Wally was born on February 11, 1936 in Portage, the son of Wallace and Verna (Priske) Bolgrien, Sr.  He served his country with the United States Army.  He began working for the Portage Police Department in 1962, and retired as Assistant Chief of Police in 1990.  Wally loved hunting and fishing;  and was an avid sports fan.  He truly loved taking care of his family.

He is survived by his sister, Donna (Richard) Ramsey, Baraboo;  his brother, James R. Bolgrien, Portage;  his nephews, great-nephews, and great-nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wayne, and one niece, Deborah.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with the Rev. Alan Boeck officiating.  Portage area veterans will conduct military honors.  Private family inurnment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
