Carol J. Niebuhr

VERONA  --  Carol J. Niebuhr, age 82, formerly of Portage passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Willow Pointe Assisted Living in Verona.

Carol was born on July 19, 1935, in Madison, the daughter of Richard and Jane (Ryerson) Clarke. She was married on October 7, 1974 to George L. Niebuhr, Jr.  He preceded her in death in 2015. Carol loved watching birds with George.  She enjoyed dining at Supper Clubs, with Club 23 being a favorite of hers.  Carol especially enjoyed fishing for many years with Don and Mary in Minnesota.    

She is survived by her son, Rick (Becky) Sorensen, of Oregon; her step-daughters, Cheryl Murray and Tammy Downing; her grandchildren, Dane (Kira Bausch) Sorensen, of Madison and Brooke (Cherish Dublin) Sorensen, of Madison; her step-grandchildren, Robert (Rhiannon) Smith, and Jennifer (Bill) Martin, five great-grandchildren; her brothers, Richard (Janet) Clarke, of Utah, and Robert (Shirley) Clarke, of Colorado; her sister, Patricia (Evan) Wolter, of Milwaukee, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George, her daughter, Vicki Sorensen Baker, her granddaughter, Brianne Murray and her sister, Betty Brock. 

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, with Rev. Susan Oeffler officiating.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Bev Weyh and family for their devoted care of Carol in the last three years which made it possible for her to remain in her home, as well as Dr. K at the U.W. Carbone Cancer Center and the staff at Willow Pointe Assisted Living and Agrace HospiceCare for their excellent care of Carol.
