James M. Mientke

 

PORTAGE – James M. Mientke, age 78, of Portage, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at The Rivers, in Portage.

Jim was born on May 27, 1940 in Wausau, the son of Anthony and Frances (Matison) Mientke.  He graduated with highest honors from Oshkosh High School in 1958 and attended the University of Alaska from 1959-1960.  Jim served his country in the United States Air Force from 1958 -1962, based in Alaska, he worked in hydrant refueling.  In 1962 he attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where he graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree.  He married Nancy Helen Kempfer on February 14, 1994, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in DeForest.  Nancy preceded him in death on May 3, 2017.  Jim worked in Quality Control at Traex Plastics for 15 years. He loved planes and wrote poetry.      

James is survived by his step-daughters, Tammy (Don) DeBaere and Susan (Ray) Winter; step-granddaughter, Lindsey Peterson, other relatives and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Nancy H. Mientke.

Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home (www.pmmfh.com) in Portage with Rev. Greg Hovland officiating. Inurnment will be private. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
