Robert L. Lawver, Jr.

PORTAGE – Robert L. Lawver, Jr., 61, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage after a long, courageous battle with COPD, as well as heart and other health issues.

Bob/Bobby was born on July 31, 1956, to Robert L. Lawver, Sr., and Virginia (Peggy) nee Ebneter at Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from Portage High School in 1974, then served briefly in the US Air Force.

Bob was a hard worker and held several jobs during his adult life, including driving semi across the US, and as a roofer with Solterman Roofing in Portage. Much later, he became caregiver for his mother until her death in 2010 and then for his Uncle Ken until early 2017.

Bob was very intelligent, had a very generous, kind heart and a great sense of humor. He had a passion and unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He always loved to learn even more about history. He also enjoyed writing science fiction.

Bob is survived by two sons: Matthew (Sue) Lawver of Tomah, Phil (Mandy) Lehman of Mount Horeb; stepson, Jim Behnke of Wisconsin Dells; four grandchildren, Jasmine, Dylan, Adam, Caleb; two sisters, Diana (Terry) Alsum of Fox Lake, Patricia Reick of Portage; brother, George Lawver of Montello; uncle and aunts, Ken Ebneter, Carole Zuhlke, Judy Ebneter; nieces and nephews, Dale (Mindy) Forsythe, Lorne/Lance (Leah) Forsythe, Rebecca (James) Whistleman, Sheena (Tim) Tamminga, Cassaundra Mohr, Keith Reick; numerous great-nieces and nephews; ex-wife/mother of his sons, Barbara; ex-wife, Wanda who always remained a dear friend and her children and granddaughter, Nychelle; many other very special friends, Tony and Pam, and long-time friend, Jeff Colt.

Bob was preceded in death by both his parents; sister, Starla Forsythe; brother, William Lawver; and nephew, Benjimin Alsum.

Per Bob’s request, there will be no services.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at Divine Savior Healthcare, including Chaplain Tom Drury and Agrace HospiceCare for their compassion during a difficult time.

Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family.
