Craig J. Calkins

POYNETTE – Gentle soul Craig "Rollie" J. Calkins, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at his home in Poynette. 

Craig was born on November 5, 1955, in Portage, the son of Dellos and Donna (Harwell) Calkins.  He graduated from Poynette High School in 1973. Craig was currently employed at Dane Manufacturing in Dane, Wisconsin. He was an avid slow-pitch softball player for many years, playing for several teams. Craig’s position was pitcher and he was well known for the “arc” he put on the ball. He was a golf enthusiast as well as a devoted Green Bay Packers and Brewers fan. Craig enjoyed watching his niece and nephew grow up to become adults and was also there to watch his great-niece and great-nephews grow up. He loved animals.  

He is survived by his brother, Brad (Tess) Calkins, Philippines; his sister, Cheryl (Jerry) Midthun, Waunakee; niece, Kelly (Tim) Schmidt; nephew, Nicholas (Pam) Midthun; great niece and great nephews, Madeline and Jaxon Midthun, Ethan and Mason Schmidt; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dellos and Donna Calkins; grandparents, Alfred and Helen Harwell and Robert and Susan Hackbart.

A memorial celebration of Craig’s life will be held at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette on Thursday, June 21, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Inurnment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Poynette on Friday, June 22, 2018, at 10:30 a.m..
