Kathleen M. “Kathy” Manthey (Pickhardt)

PARDEEVILLE  –  Kathleen M. “Kathy” Manthey (Pickhardt), age 75, died peacefully at her home on Monday, December 24, 2018 in Pardeeville, WI, surrounded by her loving family after a sixteen month battle with peritoneal cancer.  Kathy never gave up.  She never complained, maintaining her strong faith with a brave outlook of an optimistic future – even through surgeries, procedures and countless chemotherapy treatments.

Kathy was born on April 16, 1943, in Plainfield, WI to Arthur and Marguerite (Steinborn) Pickhardt.  She married her high school sweetheart, Harold Manthey on October 24, 1964 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pardeeville, WI.  Together they raised two daughters, Lisa and Peggy.  Kathy worked at the First National Bank in Portage for 16 years;  then had a successful career as a realtor for First Weber (formerly Lee Realty) for 30 years.  Kathy was heavily involved at St. John’s as a youth leader for the Lutheran Girl Pioneers and blessed the congregation with her beautiful voice for over 50 years in the church choir.  She also was involved in the local community as a member of the Portage Rotary Club for 18 years, where she served as Club Treasurer.  Being a member of the Portage Rotary was special to her because of her lifelong commitment to caring.  Recently she was awarded the distinguished Paul Harris Fellow through her local club.  In her spare time she enjoyed golfing, tending to her beautiful gardens, watching the Packers / Badgers, and most importantly spending time with her treasured grandchildren.  Kathy loved family get-togethers;  any chance to spend time with her family was important to her.  She would spend hours cooking and was best known for her amazing baking abilities, especially her pies.

She is survived by her husband, Harold of 54 years;  daughter, Lisa (Dan) Foss, Janesville;  daughter, Peggy (Scott) Braun, Pensacola Beach, FL;  six grandchildren:  Lisa’s children: Alissa, Jorden, and Lillian; Peggy’s children: Caleb, Margaret, and Isaac;  sister, Carol Bolden, Rhinelander;  brother, Robert (Carol) Pickhardt, Eau Claire;  plus numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Marguerite Pickhardt;  sister, Sharon Dupler;  brother, Lawrence Pickhardt; and recently her brother-in-law, Royal Bolden.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 505 E. LaFollette St., Pardeeville, with the Rev. Bill Runke officiating.  Inurnment will be private in Marcellon Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Saturday at the church, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by UW-Madison Carbone Cancer Center and Agrace Hospice, especially Lisa and Amy.  Faith and giving back has always been important to Kathy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, In Memory of Kathy Manthey, 505 E. LaFollette St., Pardeeville, WI  53954.
