Ronald J. Kierna

PRAIRIE DU SAC/PORTAGE/FORMERLY OF CARY, IL – Ronald J. Kierna, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Prairie du Sac on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Ron was born on July 18, 1936, in Chicago, IL, the son of Frank and Augusta (Muehlfelder) Kierna. Ron proudly served his country in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean Conflict. Ron married Laurie Goepfert on May 25, 1987, in Portage. He was employed at American Airlines for 35 years, Labbeemint and Trecek Auto., both of Portage. Ron enjoyed hunting, the outdoors and watching the Packers.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie Kierna of Prairie du Sac; children, Thomas (Faith) Kierna, Patty (Frank) Schaefges, Brian (Nancy) Kierna, Rae Ann Mitchell, Karen Kierna; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Christine Walsh; brothers-in-law, Carl (Lana) Goepfert and Wally (Kay) Goepfert. He is further survived by many other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, James; brothers, Gene and Robert; father- and mother-in-law, Walter and Barbara Goepfert.

Funeral services will be held at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home, 430 W. Wisconsin St., Portage, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Alan Boeck officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Portage Area Veterans Honor Guard of which Ron was a proud member. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
