Rosanna E. Heilman

PORTAGE – Rosanna E. Heilman, age 86, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Columbia Health Care Center in Wyocena, surrounded by her loving family.

Rosanna was born on March 3, 1932, in Rugby, North Dakota, the daughter of Joseph J. and Stella (Ongstad) Schmidt.  She had taught at a one room schoolhouse in rural Rugby.  Rosanna married Raymond Heilman on June 10, 1953 in Rugby, North Dakota.  They then moved to West Bend in 1964, where they raised their family.  They later moved to Cassville in 1979, where they owned and operated the Sand Bar Motel.  They retired and moved to Portage in 1993.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond;  her children, Kathleen Heilman, Rugby, North Dakota, Gary (Sarah) Heilman, West Bend, Timothy Heilman, Baraboo, James (Lisa) Heilman, Elkhorn, Richard (Judy) Heilman, Fond du Lac, Marla (Steve) Thole, Madison and Nancy Houim, Rugby, North Dakota;  nine grandchildren, Leah and Jon Heilman, Jenna Heilman, Katelyn and Ethan Heilman, Heidi and Heather Thole, Josh and Amber Houim;  two sisters, Marlys Fiedler, Allenton, and Eileen Garcia (Aurelio), New Bloomfield, Missouri;  other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Kenneth, Milton and Marty Schmidt, two grandchildren, Ashley and Abby Houim, and son-in-law, David Houim.                  

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding.  Burial will be on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Mary Cemetery, Portage. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, where the Rosary will be recited at 4:40 p.m.
